We started from an audit finding.
Origin
Our first version was a spreadsheet macro written for a group controller who had just been told, for the third consecutive year, that her spend policy was not evidenced as operating effectively. The policy existed. It was well written. Nothing enforced it.
Every tool she had been sold worked on settled transactions. By then the money was gone and the only remaining question was how to describe its departure. The control was not weak; it was simply positioned after the event it was meant to control.
Stanchion moves that decision to authorisation. It is a narrower product than most in this category on purpose — we do not do travel booking, we do not do procurement, and we are not a bank.
How we build
Three commitments we have not broken.
No percentage of spend
We charge for the control, not for the volume of money passing under it. A pricing model that rewards us when you spend more is not a control vendor's pricing model.
No policy we cannot evidence
If a rule cannot produce an audit trail showing who decided what and why, we do not ship it. This has cost us features.
No lock on your ledger
Your policies, decisions and evidence export in full, in an open format, on request and on termination.
